Centenary Memorial Gardens
Centenary Memorial Gardens is a funeral venue located east of Ipswich at 353 Wacol Station Road, Sumner. Established in 2001, Centenary Crematorium is a popular choice for funeral services and is sometimes referred to as Wacol Crematorium or Sumner Crematorium. Entry to Centenary Memorial Gardens Crematorium is from Wolston Road. It is modern and considered one of the best crematoriums available for Ipswich.
The crematorium has two chapels: the Federation Chapel, which can seat about 120 people and features green and light wood tones for a warm, modern feel, and the Centenary Memorial Gardens Open Air Chapel.
The Centenary Memorial Gardens Open Air Chapel is set in a country area of the cemetery, making it suitable for nature-loving families. It has seating for approximately 30 people and ample standing room. If it rains on the day of the service, the Federation Chapel will be available as an alternative location.
The Catering Room is conveniently located just to the left of the chapel, making it accessible for those who are unable to walk long distances. However, prior booking is essential to use these facilities. Centenary Memorial Gardens also has a cemetery within the grounds, and the chapel is available for burial services.

Crematoriums usually hold funerals on the hour and a half time slots (e.g. 10:00am, 11:30am, 1.00pm and so on) and funeral directors work on the principal of 9:30am, 11:00am, 12.30pm and so on, so bookings can be tight with large amount of content and many speakers. Over the years, the facilities at these venues have improved, and now feature the capability to play Photo presentations, have Live Streaming and music for the family and friends who attend the funeral.
The preferred total time for the funeral service is 45 minutes, as there are usually other funeral services taking place. The funeral director needs time before and after the funeral to put into place the wishes of the family, check music or photo presentations , and collect coffin flowers , floral tributes, and other items after the funeral so it’s clear for the next family. If you think you need more time, you can book two chapel times at a small cost.
Most funeral directors will ask at the outset whether you’ve chosen a cremation or burial
to clarify the direction the funeral service will take and identify the associated documents required.
