Writing a Funeral Notice

How To Write a Funeral Notice

Writing a Funeral Notice

Placing a funeral notice in a newspaper is to notify family and friends of the death of a loved one. It is particularly effective for those friends that you may not have been in touch with for some time.

Funeral notices are expensive and are usually in the $585.00 price range, although the cost will increase with more information. Tony Hollands Funerals consultants will write the notice for you or, if you wish, you may use our template, found at the bottom of this page.

Reducing the information that needs to be in the notice may be something you regret. The Tony Hollands Funerals arranger will try to word the notice in a way that minimises the number of lines required but still includes all the right information. In the end, the wording is completely your choice, as it still needs to be the way you want it.

You may also wish to place a line of sentiment to the notice such as "Always loved, never forgotten" or 'Gone Fishing". please visit our Lines of Sentiment page to see more examples.

Below, we’ve listed some examples of different death notices and funeral notices and when they should appear. As you’ll see, the Tony Hollands Funerals Newspaper Logo is under each notice - this is placed under the notice so people who intend to come to the funeral or are unable to be there can contact Tony Hollands Funerals to order flowers and so on.

Our staff often receives calls from people trying to clarify whether they know the deceased, upon reading a funeral notice. When this occurs, the privacy laws and our privacy policy prevent us from giving out information such as phone numbers and addresses. If you wish, we can provide them with contact information of a family member or friend who can answer these questions. Alternatively, we collect the contact details of the caller and pass that on to you.
